Psychedelic Selves explores the intersection of psychedelic experiences and identity, with an emphasis on queer, transgender, and gender expansive experiences.
I am a clinical psychologist licensed in California and New York, and Professor of Medical Psychology in the Department of Psychiatry at Columbia University Medical Center, and Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. My community-led research is focused on building community leadership to develop and evaluate transgender–specific, trauma-informed interventions to promote holistic health and wellness among transgender and gender expansive people. I am funded by the National Institutes of Health, CDC, and various state-level agencies and philanthropic organizations.
My research has focused primarily on serving transgender women of color and those affected by HIV in California and São Paulo, Brazil. More recently, my research focus has expanded to include psychedelic-assisted therapies for gender expansive and queer people. My research and clinical interests lie at the intersections of social justice, self-exploration, health, community, and identity.
